it’s a summer road trip giveaway contest!!!!

May 23rd, 2009

In honor of the unofficial start of summer—and the official start of road-trip season—I am giving away three copies of the If I Stay audiobook, read by Kirsten Potter.

To enter, all you have to do is post your favorite road-trip song/album/audiobook to share with the rest of us. At the end of this week, I will pick three winners at random to receive the audiobook.

Happy and safe driving, all.

p.s. Nick pointed out to me the possible strangeness of giving out an audiobook about a family’s whose road trip ends in tragedy for the start of road trip season. Um, yeah. That is kind of weird. I wasn’t really thinking of the content of the book when I devised this contest but just a giveway to give some audiobooks away and I know people like to listen to them on long drives and with Memorial Day approaching, and thus the start of summer and driving season…you get the picture.

Anyhow, each CD will come with a special portion of drive-safely fairy dust, supplied  by my daughter who seems to have an ample stash of fairy dust somewhere in her bedroom.

  1. Take That’s GREATEST DAY — I just found how good it is yesterday. I hope you will enjoy the song.

  2. Technically it’s not an audiobook, but I’d have to go with “this american life” as my favorite to listen to on road trips. Jonathan Richman is always a good standby on the road as well, great for sing alongs…..dum de dum de dum dum de dum day…ooooh New England!

  3. Couldn’t help myself as I have just made a Road Trip mix – beware this is tragic…
Life is a Highway (Tom Cochrane)
Devil Went Down to Georgia (Charlie Daniels Band)
    Sweet Home Alabama (Lynard Skynrd)
I Would Walk Five Hundred Miles (The Pretenders)
    Body Electric (Fame)
    Slow Ride (Foghat)
Everyday is a Winding Road (Sheryl Crow)
    Never Again (Kelly Clarkson)
    Open Spaces (Dixie Chicks)
Free Fallin’ (Tom Petty) – I loved this scene in Jerry Maguire (which is also the last time I liked Tom Cruise)

And yes, I do have horrible, daggy music taste.

  4. All of my road trips now include listening to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows-its just perfect for a long ride.

  5. I was raised on Bruce Springsteen (my parent’s would actually sing me “Thunder Road” instead of real lullabies), so I would have to say, anything by the boss. Especially Born to Run..it’s pretty perfect to drive to, and one of the only CDs my family can listen to from start to finish without arguing!

  6. These are 100% random but so is life :)

    *Dear Juliet- Take Me Away
    *Metro Station- Shake It
    *Metro Station- California
    *Lady GaGa- Love Game
    *Van Morrison- Brown Eyed Girl
    *Mayday Parade- Jersey
*Mayday Parade- If You Wanted A Song Written About You
    *Michael Jackson- Beat it
    *Journey- Don’t Stop Believing
    *Queen- Bohemian Rhapsody
    *Paramore- Breathe

    *Jack Johnson- Better Together
    *Shinedown- Second Chances
*All American Rejects- Gives You Hell
    *Once Soundtrack- Falling Slowly

<3 them all. I’d add more but that would be too much, you can add anything by the GooGoo Dolls or Hootie& BlowFish ect. to make it better

  7. how difficult it is to pick just one song !
but I find one song by a french artist that I like because of who he is and what he give to his fans.
It’s “sur la route de Dakar” by William Baldé.

  8. “I Don’t Wanna Be On TV” – The Airborne Toxic Event
    “Viva la Vida” – Coldplay
“Wanna Be” – The Zebrahead (Spice Girls Cover)

These are the ones I can think of off hand.

  9. Sorry, thought of some more.
“You’re Not Sorry (CSI Remix)) – Taylor Swift
    “Fat Lip” – Sum 41
    “Temperature” – Sean Paul
    “Under Pressure” – Queen
    “So What” – P!NK
    “Handlebars” – Flobots

Random, but I like them. <3

  10. OK, thought of some more…

sometimes when i’m driving, i’m no longer my 23 year old self, but instead am 16 and blast kelly clarkson or the all-american rejects.

lately, my friends and i have been rocking out to “my life would suck without you” all over again..i think justin timberlake’s snl skit reminded us all how much we liked that song!

  11. OH, and “let my love open the door,” pete townshend. or “tangerine,” led zeppelin. or “anyway you want it,” journey. those songs just make me happpy/remind me of being a little kid in the backseat of my parents car!

  12. My favorite car ride songs are..

    1. A Thousand Miles
    2. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!
    3. Let’s Hear It For The Boys
    4. Jenny From The Block
    5. Material Girls

These are songs mainly for a girly car ride!

  13. Kings Of Leon – Use Somebody
    Def Leppard – Photograph
    Taylor Swift – Change

Do you know this song from Carrie Underwood – Jesus take the Wheel ? It’s about car crash with a woman and her baby.
