where she went–the full package

September 7th, 2010

Okay, now that you’ve endured that Teaser Tour, here is the full cover with the jacket copy, which actually gives away pretty much everything the teaser tour did, plus a little excerpt from the book. Plus, if you head on over to the If I Stay site, you can get some behind-the-scenes stills of the video we made (the video should be up pretty soon) take a quiz (it’s supereasy) and even read one of Adam’s lyrics.

No more tormenting after this. I promise.

Here’s the cover again:

And here is the jacket copy:

My first impulse is not to grab her or kiss her or yell at her. I simply want to touch her cheek, still flushed from the night’s performance. I want to cut through the space that separates us, measured in feet—not miles, not continents, not years—and to take a callused finger to her face. I want to touch her to make sure it’s really her, not one of those dreams I had so often after she left when I’d see her so clear as day, be ready to kiss her or take her to me only to wake up with Mia just beyond reach.

But I can’t touch her. This is a privilege that’s been revoked.

It’s been three years since Adam’s love saved Mia after the accident that annihilated life as she knew it . . . and three years since Mia walked out of Adam’s life forever.

Now living on opposite coasts, Mia is Julliard’s rising star and Adam is LA tabloid fodder, thanks to his new rock star status and celebrity girlfriend. When Adam gets stuck in New York by himself, chance brings the couple together again, for one last night. As they explore the city that has become Mia’s home, Adam and Mia revisit the past and open their hearts to the future—and each other.

Told from Adam’s point of view in the spare, powerful prose that defined If I StayWhere She Went explores the devastation of grief, the promise of new hope, and the flame of rekindled romance.

  1. I just want to say “waooo”
The jacket copy is amazing !! I’m eager to read it !!!
I’m sure it will be a great book. and I’m glad that in France we could read it before everyone !

  2. The jacket copy gave me goosebumps! Cant’t wait to get started on the translation – it’s my next project, just have to finish some vampyre business first.

  3. “But I can’t touch her. This is a privilege that’s been revoked.”

Gayle, you just killed me with those words!

  4. Oh man! Thank you! I’m really looking forward to your book even more now. The excerpt had me salivating for more. I loved it!

  5. Gahh! This is torture. Why do we have to wait so much for the book?!

  6. Love the jacket copy, love the cover, love the whole book (and I love you, too)!

  7. That cover is just beautiful. And I love the premise–reminds me a little of Before Sunrise, one of my favorite movies.

  8. I’d say more Before Sunset than Before Sunrise, but yes, I’d say those movies had an influence. And I LOVE those movies. Desperately. I know April is far off but we had to wait ten years in between the Sunrise/Sunset movies

  9. OMG!!!!!!!!!! I can’t tell you how badly I want to read Where She Went now!!! Sounds amazing!

  10. Beautiful excerpt. I’m teary eyed. Adam is an exquisite character & I can’t wait to read this book. My mind is already curious about how it will all end… and now I’m conflicted about how I’ll feel if ends like Before Sunrise did… :)

  11. Oh. Sigh. I’m melting. Your words have melted me.

  12. If they don’t stay together I’m going to cry. That is a statement, not the product of teenage hysteria.

    I. Can. Not. Wait. For it to come. The blurb only makes me want to read it even more. Wait, I’ll re-read it.

*re-reads blurb and all the stops in the tour*

yep. If they don’t stay together I’ll cry. Loud. And sob.

And I *will* have a box of Kleenex near me. Especially because I’m going to re-read IIS right before WSW.

(my god, this is a long comment)

  13. OH. MY. GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I sooooo cannot wait for WSW. i got goose bumps as i read the jacket copy (and teary eyed too). i just know that this will be an incredible book and im seriously happy that gayle decided to make a sequel.
p.s. gayle, you did notice that Lisa Schroeder posted a comment right?(lisa youre an amazing author too!)

  14. If this book ends like Before Sunset, and we have to guess if they stay together or not, AFTER ALL OF THIS…

hmmmm. Not sure how I feel about that.

  15. i have re-read the blurb so many times…

  16. Cool your jets, people. I only meant it was like Before Sunset because in that movie the characters see each other after not having seen each other for a spell. That’s it.
And this has nothing to do with WSW, but to me, it’s totally clear they stay together at the end of Before Sunset. “Baby, you’re gonna miss that plane.” Messy divorce and custody battle to follow. But Jesse and Celine? Together. Fer sure.

  17. phew they are so great together

  18. oh wait you said its got nothing to do with WSW. gosh the expectation, the suspense -it kills me

  19. I just have to tell you, Gayle, that I received an ARC of Where She Went from my Penguin rep this week, and needless to say, I finished it in one sitting. WOW! I was (am!) blown away by how naturally and beautifully this story unfolded, and despite all of his “guy”-angsty-bullshit, I couldn’t help but root for Adam from cover to cover. I wasn’t sure that I could find a place in my heart for a continuation of If I Stay, but boy was I proved wrong. I cannot wait for your book to pub. so that I can talk about it with everyone. You have a real gift for channeling the thoughts, insecurities, etc. of teens and young adults, Gayle, and I can’t wait to see what you come out with next!

PS, I would tell you my absolute favorite part here (it involves a guitar…and a flood of tears on my part), but I do not want to ruin any of this wonderful story for the rest of your legion of fans!

  20. Katie, you are really really lucky! I’m glad that you loved WSW, though, and even though you were a bit anxious about the sequel you ended up blown away, apparently.

I would die if I could read an ARC of Where She Went. >_< Gayle, you're such a damn tease!!!

  21. I know, Cass. I’m shameless. Though FWIW, this whole teaser tour was my publisher’s idea, not mine. So I’m a proxy tease.

Katie, your comment made my day. I know how reluctant some people are to taint IIS with a sequel–trust me, I was reluctant, too–so to know that your expectations were met or exceeded is very heartening to me.

    XX

  22. i cant wait 2read the book so exited omg !!!

  23. AMAZING!!!!! I am beyond excited, sitting on the edge of my seat, biting finger nails so very ready for April to get here!
I am just catching up on your blogs and I must say I was missing out! I love your writing and how you portray life. I don’t know if you look back on comments, you must get a lot, but I just wanted to let you know If I Stay is on my top 5 of best read books! Thank you for becoming a writer and creating such a mind blowing work of art!
    ~Peace and Love~

  24. I so want to read this now. At the end of IIS when Adam said, “Mia?” I couldn’t breathe and I wanted to know what happened next. I wish I could be an ARC at my local bookstore. (I’ve read IIS like 8 times and cried like 10 times in it. I have a feeling I’m going to need all day to read this. And not at school)

  25. When will WSW be released in Australia?

I am absalutely in love with If I Stay, I can’t wait for Where She Went!!

  26. I get goosebumps everytime I think about If I Stay. I borrowed it from the library, but decided to get it as a gift for a friend for Christmas. . . and I bought a copy for own bookshelf. Mia just broke my heart, and Adam did, too. I really can’t wait to see what happens to them.

  27. I can’t believe this. Where she went will be out in the US in April 2011. When will it ever come out in the Philippines…

  28. my-oh-my! (did i really just say that? wow. i sound like my grandmother. somethin’s gotta change, i’ll tell you that) i can’t FREAKING wait!!!!!!!!! i read if i say about…a while ago. i can’t remember when. and i can’t get it out of my head. and now ADAM is telling the next bit-o’-story? that so amazing i could legit faint right here, right now. but i wont. i might slip into a coma and never be able to read WSW! eeeeeeeeeep!!!! i’m gonna go skip in circles now. :D

  29. “If I Stay”,I finished your books i 2 whole days, Gayle.
Great job on getting me addicted. Way addicted, actually.
I often finish books in about a week or more. But this book right here chained me down and my fingers were itching for more.

    FENOMENAL, WONDERFUL AND HEART-ACHING.
I’m already in hysterical anticipation for “Where She Went”.

Wish you all the best, and please never stop writing. You are an official fave author on my list !

  30. Ahhhhhhhh!!!!! I cannot wait to read Where She Went! I was really hoped Adam and Mia would be together! I cant wait to read what will happen to them! I hope it wont feel weird to read it in Adam’s point of view. CANT WAIT!!!!!!!

  31. WOW!!!!!!!!! Cant wait to read it…….. bet its gonna be as good as the first one. especially from Adam’s points of view. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

  32. Will there be another book? Because I love both of them!!!

  33. Omg. thankyou thankyou thankyou for writing such an amazing book! one of the best i’ve ever read.
I swear, some parts i didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Haha, absolutely enjoyed it.
    5 stars.
